The Dream

 3.13.2025

“The Dream”

I was driving to Enid, Oklahoma. The day was fair (not crazy weather for Oklahoma). Something happened with the car I was driving. I could no longer drive it. #keepreinventing

Somehow I got to a very posh shopping area. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. The decor was very upscale. I kept going through doors to other areas. I kept meeting extremely beautiful and smart females who looked like models, they were so gorgeous. #beautifulpeopleappear

A very tall, kind-faced woman said she would recommend I go to the parking lot, she gave me keys, and said I could get on my way with the vehicle in the parking lot. She would take care of the vehicle getting fixed that was no longer running correctly. #helparrives

While going through more doors and seeing even more incredible furniture and venues within this high-end shopping space, I was approached by an elegant, very happy lady who said to follow her. She said she was getting things in order that would be worth a great deal and more for me. #theunknown

Just before waking (in real life), I felt so appreciated and appreciative. A man handed me numerous fine-silk and cotton scarves. Woven within each scarf was a subtle Oklahoma State University emblem or Pistol Pete mascot or reflection of OSU/Stillwater. It was mesmerizing! #lifeisrich

I awoke feeling uplifted. I awoke feeling refreshed. The moments of feeling cared for, and recognized (even within a dream) were so compelling. #hope

24 Years

 2.13.2025

24 years.

A million miles.

Many tears.

Lots of laughs.

Children growing.

Grandchildren and Grand-dogs running about.

Let’s do it all again!

Happy anniversary, Killingworth!

Authorship

 1.30.2025

Two if the most important moments of my life:

1975: “Write down your thoughts.”

—D. E. Hicks

2025: “You broke a lot of writing rules…but it makes sense (or something along those lines).”

Boiled Cabbage

 1.28.2025

1964: Remember the boiled cabbage.

On an unusual day, I went with my Daddy and Momma to see Grandpa Brice and Grandma Olive at their homestead house out in very rural Texas County, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Panhandle is a region of music: forever blowing winds followed up with delightful chirping birds.

I must have been about 5 years old. My older siblings were then grown, out of the house, off at university, or at school.

You cousins know there were very few moments that only one child was within the realm of Grandma Olive and Grandpa Brice’s presence! If one grandchild was present, then usually many were in the space as well.

Grandma Olive had prepared boiled cabbage. That one dish was so delicious with some salt and pepper added. I’m sure we had other food too, but forever in my mind’s eye, I will remember sitting at that table: Grandma Olive, Grandpa Brice, Daddy, Momma, and me. Rare moments. Delectable boiled cabbage.
